My Standard Shopping List

I actually like to shop.  So here is the standard shopping list. While I try to stick to simplicity, sometimes I enjoy picking up fresh, organic seasonal fruit and veggies or something for the crock pot that can be in my meals for many days: beef, pork, chicken, whathaveyou.

  • Coffee
  • Seltzer Water - I like bubbles
  • Bob's Red Mill Oats
  • Dave's Killer Bread
  • Eggs
  • Tuna
  • Chicken
  • Grass Fed Beef
  • Mixed Salad Greens
  • Broccoli
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Spinach or Kale or Chard
  • Bananas
  • Apples
  • Grapefruit
  • Raspberries
  • Tomatoes
  • Avocado
  • Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
  • Almond or Peanut Butter
That's it.  Pretty simple isn't it?  And like I mentioned above I do occasionally splurge on something crock pot and paleo ready. I usually only eat carbs pre-workout or right after, though the post meal is usually in the for of a Muscle Milk shake with a banana and some of the above mentioned almond milk and ice.

Happy hunting,

J

Here's A Freeby

This is so simple anyone can do it.  I am now going to GIVE you the key to a healthy lifestyle.  Are you ready for it?  Here it comes.  Do I have your attention?  I don't want you to miss this.  And it is so darn easy.

MOVE MORE AND EAT BETTER!

That's it.  So easy a monkey could do it.  Now it's your turn.  And if you don't want to have to think about it, then I am your man.  I have the plan.  For a paltry $50.00 a month you can have a wonderful lifestyle.  That's $1.64 a day.

Now here are a few tips.  Eat like this and shop around the perimeter of the market:
Grass fed meat.  Eat plenty of poultry - things with wings.
Wild fish.
Eat a lot of eggs.
Vegetables and fruits.  Eat a lot of vegetables and less fruit if you are trying to get to fighting weight.  Fruit has natural sugar.

Do not eat - I repeat do not eat processed foods, sugar, anything that comes from the store in a bag or a box.

Simple.  Oh, and drink lots of water.

Best,

J

Felt a Lot Like Poop Today

You ever get all geared up and ready for a workout?  I am talking about a proper breakfast: oatmeal, berries, almonds, sugar free syrup, a big cup o' espresso.  I am talking getting mentally prepared the night previous, knowing the route, the amount of effort, setting goals kind of ready where there is no way that it won't be a killer day?  I did.  And I sucked.  I was tired.  I was spent.  I wanted to turn around and limp home with my tail between my legs.  I resembled something brown that rhymed with Snoop (and no I am not talking about Dr. Dre).  So what do you do?

There are a lot of schools of thought on this one.  Some say just pack it in and go home - not an option for me.  Some say put your head down and drive and bury the pain - man the eff up, if you will pardon the poor language.  Some, like me, believe it is best to slow it down, find a slightly uncomfortable rhythm, and continue on your way.  It could turn around.  You could feel better.  You could feel like poop for the time you are out there but, and there is always a but, I assure you you will feel better after the workout, weak as it may be, than if you cave and go home.  Quitting is not an option.  We all have bad days.  I had one today. They suck.  We all agree.  But they are few.

If you want to know more about 'bonking' please ask.  I have been there more times than I care to admit.  Eat.  Hydrate.  Get past the weakness and carry on.  That is what we do.

Best,

J

Repost - Do You Drink Enough Water?

I cannot reiterate the importance of staying hydrated.  This is only a guideline but not a bad place to start.
I am getting out for a little dirt excursion in the next hour.  I think a Tam shred is order today.

Get outside. Drink water. Eat clean.  Have fun.  And sweat.

Best,

J

Rest Day

Eagle!

 Really?
 Big Rock!
 Black Mountain!
Tam View.

Simply put a rest day is simply an active non-ride day.  Translation: I hike.  With a Camera.  I soak up the wonderful views we are afforded for living in one of the least affordable places in the world.  THAT is why Marin Fit is inexpensive and for everyone.  No gym membership.  No equipment to buy.  All you need are a pair of running shoes and desire.

When you have reached desire, please talk to me.  420wear [at] gmail [dot] com

2013 is Gone and 2014 is here

I do not make New Year resolutions.  I think they are corny.  I would much rather let my inner voice decide when I begin something or end something.

This morning I woke up and my inner voice was very loud.

I did not get to race in 2013.  Or rather I made no time to race in 2013 due to, well, other obligations. I should have those same obligations and more this year, and I fully intend on racing this fine year.
I have written a work of fiction.  More than one but this is the only one for public consumption at this point.  YOU CAN FIND IT HERE.  I also write for Cycling Illustrated.

What am I getting at?  Good question.  My writing, racing, family and lifestyle will be at the forefront of all things important for me going forward, not just for this year.

Best,

J
